About this paper
This is the official ICSE Class 10 Chemistry (Science Paper 2) question paper from the 2024 examination, paper code T24 522. It carries 80 marks, with two hours of writing time plus 15 minutes of reading time. Section A (40 marks) is compulsory: Question 1 has 15 one-mark multiple-choice questions, and Question 2 has five five-mark parts, starting with a sketch of an iron cup being electroplated with nickel. In Section B candidates attempt any four of Questions 3–8, worth 10 marks each, including a table on the Contact Process, a mole problem on calcium carbonate, a salt-identification case about a student named Rita, and a gas-volume problem on burning ammonia. This copy has the questions only, without answers.

Questions from this paper
- During the electroplating of an iron cup with nickel, why is the iron cup placed at the cathode, and which ion must be present in the electrolyte?
- State the term for the amount of substance which contains the same number of units as the number of atoms in carbon-12.
- Calcium carbonate reacts with dilute hydrochloric acid as CaCO₃ + 2HCl → CaCl₂ + H₂O + CO₂. What is the volume of carbon dioxide liberated at S.T.P. from 5 moles of calcium carbonate?
- Give reasons: inert gases do not form ions, and covalent compounds have low melting and boiling points.
- If 240 cc of ammonia is burnt in 300 cc of oxygen according to 4NH₃ + 3O₂ → 2N₂ + 6H₂O, find the composition of the resultant gaseous mixture at room temperature.
- Differentiate between sulphuric acid and nitric acid using barium chloride solution.
