About this paper
This is ICSE Class 10 Physics, Science Paper 1, from the 2017 examination, code T17 521. It consists of 6 printed pages and carries 80 marks, with two hours to write after 15 minutes of reading. Section I, Questions 1 to 4, is compulsory. Each question has five two-mark parts, on forces and gravity, the jack screw, heat capacity, refraction and total internal reflection, the audible range, specific resistance, a bulb, the transformer, thermions and radioactivity. Section II, Questions 5 to 10, asks for any four questions, with a half-metre rule, pulley systems, calorimetry, lenses, damped vibrations and household wiring. Answers are to be written on a separate sheet. This copy has the questions only.

Questions from this paper
- The distance between two bodies is doubled. How is the magnitude of the gravitational force between them affected?
- If the power of a motor is 100 kW, at what speed can it raise a load of 50,000 N?
- A solid of mass 50 g at 150°C is placed in 100 g of water at 11°C, and the final temperature is 20°C. Find the specific heat capacity of the solid. Specific heat capacity of water = 4.2 J/g°C.
- The human ear detects sounds from 20 Hz to 20,000 Hz. Taking the speed of sound in air as 330 m/s, calculate the wavelengths of these extreme frequencies.
- An electric bulb of resistance 500 Ω draws a current of 0.4 A. Calculate the power of the bulb and the potential difference at its ends.
- A wire of length 80 cm has a frequency of 256 Hz. Calculate the length of a similar wire under the same tension which will have a frequency of 1024 Hz.
