About this paper
This is ICSE Class 10 Physics, Science Paper 1, from the 2019 examination, code T19 521. It carries 80 marks, with two hours to write after 15 minutes of reading. Section I, Questions 1 to 4, is compulsory. The short parts include a claw hammer as a lever, kinetic energy, the calorie, critical angle, specific heat, lenses, a resistor network, electromagnetic induction and nuclear fusion. Section II, Questions 5 to 10, asks for any four questions, among them a falling 10 kg body, a metre scale, a pulley, a convex lens of focal length 8 cm, an echo from a cliff, calorimetry with ice and an a.c. generator. Answers are to be written separately. This copy has the questions only.

Questions from this paper
- Two bodies A and B have masses in the ratio 5 : 1 and kinetic energies in the ratio 125 : 9. Find the ratio of their velocities.
- The specific heat capacity of substance A is 3,800 J kg⁻¹ K⁻¹ and that of substance B is 400 J kg⁻¹ K⁻¹. Which is the better conductor of heat? Give a reason.
- A body of mass 10 kg is kept at a height of 5 m and allowed to fall. What is its kinetic energy just before hitting the ground? Take g = 10 m/s².
- An object is placed 24 cm in front of a convex lens of focal length 8 cm. Calculate the image distance and the magnification.
- A pendulum makes 4 vibrations per second. An observer fires a gun as he starts it and hears the echo after 6 vibrations. If the speed of sound is 340 m/s, find the distance of the cliff.
- 104 g of water at 30°C is taken in a copper calorimeter of mass 42 g. After ice at 0°C is added, the steady temperature is 10°C. Find the mass of ice added. Specific heat capacity of water = 4.2 J g⁻¹ °C⁻¹, specific latent heat of fusion of ice = 336 J g⁻¹, specific heat capacity of copper = 0.4 J g⁻¹ °C⁻¹.
